First Hand Experience in Thailand with George & Charlene ...

We just spent a wonderful few weeks in Hong Kong, Thailand and Angkor (Siem Reap, Cambodia). The trip was just fantastic! Hong Kong is a large vibrant city that we found fascinating to see. The busy Harbour, amazing markets and great shopping areas.

Bangkok is also a bustling city, offering fascinating temples and palaces. Shopping is incredible and where else does an elephant come and visit you on a busy downtown street while you are enjoying a cold beer? Angkor Wat in Cambodia was just fascinating to us. The main attractions are the huge, amazing ancient temples that are truly indescribable. They definitely took us by awe. Angkor is without doubt one of the most breathtaking architectural masterpieces left standing in the world today. Without witnessing them at first hand it is impossible to gauge the enormity of task faced by the builders of the time ".....Everything is built on a massive scale and one can only imagine the awe felt by ancient visitors as the civilization was at its peak. It is estimated that over one million people lived there making it the largest metropolis in its time....."

Back in Thailand, we headed to the beach at Ao Nang in the Krabi area on the Andaman Sea. We were in a beautiful spot, very picturesque, tropical vegetation, limestone cliffs and turquoise sea, just lovely! The area offers kayaking, elephant rides, island hopping by long boat or speed boat, snorkeling, diving, river rafting, rock climbing and fabulous food. The Ao Nang beach suffered minimal damage during the Tsunami and there are really no signs remaining. Tourism is down in this area and Phuket due to the press they received which overplayed the damage sustained there. While some areas were very badly (and sadly) affected, the damage was not that widespread in Thailand. Both areas are very much ready for Tourism again and really stressing that the best way anyone can help Tsunami victims is to keep traveling to the area in an attempt to keep the locals employed. Some of the resorts are offering amazing rates right now. The Thai people are just lovely. We received warm smiles and greetings from everyone we encountered.
