We started on Oahu for just 2 nights with the main attraction
for us being visiting Pearl Harbor. The site is very interesting
and a sobering experience.
Waikiki Beach is a must see – Bustling, active area.
There is so much more we could have done on Oahu but we were
off to other islands.
Kauai – So Beautiful – From the Spectacular Napili
Coastline where we hiked a portion of the very scenic and
challenging Kalalau Trail, to the Waimea Canyon to the beaches
of Poipu. Many movies have been filmed on this island and
we could certainly see why. We enjoyed a great variety of
activities, ate wonderful meals and simply enjoyed.
Off to the Big Island. We flew into Hilo – the side
closer to Volcanoes National Park. We stayed in a Beautiful
B & B here – just a short adventurous drive out
of town to a little piece of heaven that had its own waterfall
and pool at the bottom of it. Rooms offer great views and
the water is great for a little dip. From here we set off
to explore Volcanoes National Park. Was fascinating! We could
not have grasped any description to picture in our minds without
seeing this in real life. Miles and Miles of Lava. We hiked
some great trails and even walked thru a Lava Tube.
We drove around to the Kona Side of the Island. Starting
in Very lush Rain Forest just outside of Hilo and moving through
starker country… ranches and lava fields. We stayed
right in Central Kona – great location for walking to
restaurants and shops. We went deep sea fishing (well really
deep sea boating – as we came up blank) – lovely
day on the sea though! We did a little hiking and went to
an area full of Sea Turtles. We took in a great Luau here
– right on the waterfront – great show, food and
fun.
Last stop Maui. We stayed right on the beach. My highlight
here was definitely sitting on my Lanai (balcony) watching
the whales. It was unbelievable!! We took in some fabulous
scenery on drives again, went on a dolphin and whale watching
cruise, walked a spectacular beach and enjoyed some R &
R. My last morning having my regular 1st thing in the AM coffee
on my lanai, I watched a whale through my binoculars slap
his /her tail 7 times – like he/she was waving Good-bye
and Good luck from Maui!!
